Rwanda | Gicumbi: Banana growers decry lack of facilities Agricultural School

Banana plantation growers in Bukure sector of Gicumbi district are requesting for financial help on providing necessary facilities to the school of banana growers.
Jean Paul Habiyambere, a farmer and a teacher at the modern farming school, expressed: “the school has no equipments which reduces on the speed to achieving the goal. We cannot have better yields if residents do not come to learn modern farming.”
Governor of Northern Province Aime Bosenibamwe, when he visited the area told the farmers that the quality of the plantations will give them better yields. He asked them to put more emphasis on caring for their banana plantations.
In his speech, Governor Bosenibamwe asserted: “Your banana harvests must increase and be sold at higher prices.”
To increase banana productivity, Gicumbi district authorities encourage residents to concentrate on farming though on small lands and remind them on valuing cows they received in Girinka program.
The best way to care for a banana plantation is to weed, mulching, pruning, growing other crops like beans in the plantation and others.
