Last week banana plant farmers in Nyamasheke had a meeting with the chairman of banana crop production in the Eastern province of the country, aiming at improving the farming.
This meeting took place with an aim of selecting people who will go for training on ways of how to make their banana plantations more productive, and also people who will come back and train their fellow banana plant farmers about the best ways they can use to develop banana farming in the country.
The chairman of the banana plant productivity in the Eastern province William Singirankabo said that, “The purpose of the training was to increase job opportunity in the banana plantation and also to increase the productivity of the crop in the country.
He added on that there is a programme in which banana plantations will be improved without uprooting the bananas trees, but in a proper way for development, so as to increase productivity.
The chairman called on the farmers to make banana farming their profession so as to earn a good living from it and also to help their families.
They decided to take people, who have been practicing banana farming, since they are experienced, and have a desire to do banana farming and can be able to organize other people and teach them what they got from the trainings they got for a long time.
The farmers were also called upon to transform banana crop farming in the country, and also to make their job a very good one anyone would wish to take on.
“Farmers will not fail to get market for their produce, since when then bananas grow there will still be banana plants being used in the Eastern province that were got from other places, said Singirankabo.
About 180 banana farmers will get training that will be taken in three different parts of the area.
