Farmers in Shyira sector Nyabihu district will be working on their banana plantations to make them more productive instead of doing it in a random manner where they are mixed with other crops. The agricultural sector in the area has promised support.
Shyira sector is one of the sectors in Nyabihu district very much popular for banana plantations. Rwanda Agriculture Board (RAB) promised to help farmers renovate their farming methods from traditional to modern farming by giving them good seeds of banana plantations which are more productive and apparently this promise will be fulfilled after distributing to farmers in Rubavu district.
Felicien Kwihangana one of the farmers say that they have been waiting for the promised banana seeds for a long period and even decided to dig about 8.000 holes to plant in them but these holes have outgrown.
Angela Mukaminani the vice mayor for finance and economic development in Nyabihu district while on a visit in Shyira sector told farmers to be patient for a little longer and to be preparing where to grow the banana seeds as they will be given as soon as the Rubavu district is done with.
Shyira and Rugera sectors are the most known sectors in Nyabihu district for their banana production and farmers are set to renovate their farming methods with the help of RAB for the development of their sector, district and the country in general.
This program of renovating banana plantations is being done in all parts of the country where banana plantations can be productive for farmers to produce enough for their consumption and leave for the market. Farmers in Shyira sector will be given banana plantations of FIA type which are popular for being productive when in good soils with much care.
