Partners in development who are in charge of preparing and improving coffee farming in Rusizi district are supposed to deal with production of coffee quality and quantity for it to meet the standards and be more valuable on the international market.
This was said by Innocent Kayiranga who is in charge of coffee production in the western province of Rwanda during the dialogues with partners who develop coffee production in Kamembe sector in Rusizi district on the 8th.Oct.2012.
The meeting had convened to prepare for quality coffee in next season of 2013 and to discuss the limitations that affected them in the 2012 season in coffee production.
Coffee production is one of the greatest crops in Rwanda that brings a lot of currency to Rwandan economy and the same reason the government is emphasizing on promoting its quality and quantity.
Rusizi district is the district that came on top in coffee production of 2012 season with more than 10.000 tons of coffee and even the district came in the first 5countries during the multinational competition for best coffee.
Some o the limitations to quality coffee production we4re found to be insects, animals and diseases that destroy coffee plantations especially a certain kind of insect that attacks coffee trees and decays them.
This reduces the production and even the coffee that is got from such trees loses their aroma and taste. This disease has a preventive medicine however it is supposed to be used with much care as it is poison that can be dangerous in case of misuse.
