Bugesera: Maize growers get maize peeling machines
A farmer peels maize using the machine
Maize growers in Bugesera district are celebrating a big success after forming an association and bought maize peeling machines for themselves.
Vianney Ndorimana, a farmer explains that they could not have afforded the machines if it wasn’t coming together in an association.
“It has really been tiresome and difficult to shred maize with hands. We thank Bugesera district administration for advising us to form an association and contribute for the machines,” he says.
Shredding maize manually has been life threatening since it requires sitting on your back for long hours.
Beatrice Uwizeyemariya, a farmer adds that modern machines will make life easy as one person can shred 50 kilograms of maize in an hour compared to 10 kilograms while using hands.
Using a peeling machine does not require energy and the hands are not exposed to any hurt.
Each machine costs Rwf2000 and they are available in many places in Rwanda.
