Rulindo: Less Beans production in growing season ‘A’- farmers say
Farmers in Rulindo district have said that the production of beans was low last season to an extent that it wasn’t enough for home consumption.
Some of the farmers reveal that the problem of low yields happened to everybody that grew beans in season A in Rulindo district.
Farmers blame low yields on heavy rains that caused germinating beans to rot.
Vedaste Kayonga, one of the farmers asserts that he could harvest enough beans for the market and for consumption.
“Season A was a huge loss for bean growers. Though I could harvest much beans but now what I harvested is not even enough for my family to feed on,” he explains.
However, farmers are optimistic that maize productivity will be increased this growing season B since maize is not easily affected by disasters.
