Rwanda : Bugesera to fight banana tree diseases
Different diseases that affect banana crops were identified in Bugesera district, as a way to fight their spread.
According to Jean de Dieu Nkinzingabo, Bugesera District agronomist in charge of agriculture in Bugesera, Cercosporiose and Mycosphaerellafujiensis diseases affect the banana trees mainly.
Nkinzingabo noted that all these diseases are caused by living things, and can cause leaves to lose colour and dry up.
“These diseases are very common during the rainy season,” He explained.
The agronomists listed symptoms of the diseases so that farmers can act accordingly against them.
“Humidity quickens the spread of these diseases,” He warned
He called on the farmers to cater for their banana plantations always. Meanwhile, FHIA 17 and FHIA25 exotic banana trees can survive such diseases.
