Ruhango: Cassava productivity increases

Ruhango District authorities have urged cassava growers to use natural fertilizers in order to increase cassava yields.

Joseph Salton Rutikanga, one of the farmers thanked the authorities for providing them with D.I Grow fertilizers and he is optimistic the yields will be higher than it has been.

He confesses that in five years time as a commercial cassava grower, he hopes for higher yields after using D.I Grow manure for four months.

Abel Karangwa, a cassava grower from Bugirinteko village reveals that he grows cassava on between two and three hectares of land on which he harvests 5-6 tons of cassava.

Karangwa highlights that he learnt about this manure in December 2012 when Ruhango district administration was officially launching the campaign to encourage farmers to use D.I Grow manure to increase productivity.

Rutikanga adds that buying factory made fertilizers was more costly than natural fertilizers. Factory made manure could cost him between Rwf30000 and Rwf40000.

He explains he has used seven litres of D.I Grow liquid manure in four months worth Rwf56000.
