After realizing that modern plantation gives high yields, some residents of Wimana village, Kivumu cell, Musambira sector in Kamonyi district decided to share banana seeds with other residents in that village.
This was revealed by the members of “Abakundansina” association who have grown modern banana plants on 50 metres by 20 metres of land in Wimana village.
The members confirm that once they plant them in their own gardens, they will share the plants with other residents of that place.
Anastase Niyitegeka, vice president of the association narrates that after seeing their plantation was not yielding, they carried out a study tour to Muhanga district, from where they decided to try that new type of banana plant that yields a banana between 150 and 170 kilograms.
Iddi Nzabikiramo, a member of the group says he has already uprooted the plants replacing them with yielding banana plants.
Some residents we talked about confirmed that those who planted them first have got high productivity and are considered exemplary farmers in the area.
“Abakundansina” cooperative members ask farmers to grow modern banana plants in the first season of the year since they grow better in rainy season.
