The vice mayor for finance and economic development in Nyabihu district says they are doing all they can to increase the crop production in season 2014A.
After putting much effort in the increased crop production in the last economic year and achieving it, Nyabihu district is sure this season around 2014A they harvest more produce than the last season.
This was said by Angela Mukaminani the vice mayor for finance and economic development. The vice mayor also says the main goal was to increase crop the productivity. “We already produce 32tons of Irish Potatoes per hectare, 3 tons of beans per hectare and 3.5 tons of wheat per hectare, with this we can only do better.”
For the strategies to improve the productivity in season 2014A, the vice mayor says they started by preparing for this season before time, prepared for the season 2014A with agronomists in the sectors, farming consultants and all concerned groups to prepare the sites on time
Finding ways to provide fertilizers to farmers on and sensitizing farmers on how to use the manure or factory made fertilizers are also the strategies that were used in the preparation of 2014A season.
The vice mayor explains that 53 pits were put on the farming sites in preparation of manure that will be used. 9000 hectares of Irish potatoes, 6000 hectares of maize, and 3000 hectares of wheat, 7000 hectares of beans and 1850 hectares of pyrethrum will be farmed this season
