Gakenke District records high Agricultural productivity
The administration of “Twihangire Umurimo Gakenke” cooperative announced that crop productivity has increased due to the availability of drying and storage facilities in Gakenke District.
The disclosure was made during Minister Kalibata’s visit to “Twihangire Umurimo Gakenke” cooperative.

age places improved the productivity and prices. He explains that a kilo of beans rose from Rwf80 to Rwf400. While Production increased from 600 kilograms on a hectare to 4 tons on a hectare.
However, he highlighted that last season 150 tons of grade one beans were harvested and sold to RAB (Rwanda Agriculture Board) and 300 tons grade 2 surpluses for the local markets.
He asserts that they aspire to reach at least 7 tons of harvest each season and says it will be possible since they embarked on growing the selected seeds and using organic and artificial fertilizers.
Cooperative members confirm they have achieved social development and can now afford health insurance, provide for their families’ needs and acquiring property like land.
“Twihangire umurimo” cooperative was born in 2007 and got legal entity in 2010 with 500 members from Minazi, Gakenke and Gashenyi sectors in Gakenke District.
