More than 60 coffee growers in Karongi district have been recognized with different awards for being exemplary in the farming venture by the National Agriculture Export Board (NAEB)
One of the coffee growers in Rubengera sector Jeannette Mukeshimanais now the happy owner of a cow, an award she received for being an outstanding farmer in the district on Friday December 13th 2013.

Mukeshimana was also awarded with a water pumping machine to irrigate coffee among few other items.
Mukeshimana, a widow and mother of five children has been growing coffee for the last 10 years and she currently owns 5,100 coffee plants.
Other 60 coffee growers were also awarded with water pumping machines
NAEB prepared and implemented the plan to award the hard working coffee growers in Karongi district. NAEB awarded 60 coffee growers in KOPAKAKI Dutegure cooperative at the district, sectors and cells levels.
Edgar Gakindi who represented the Karongi coffee growers called upon the awarded coffee growers to share the pumping machines with all farmers for all coffee growers are doing productive work though not all were awarded.
The cooperative of coffee growers in Karongi district KOPAKAKI Dutegure started with 300 members and it has grown to about 1080 members.
Many coffee growers in Karongi need pumping machines, and they have introduced a saving scheme that will see all farmers with personal pumping machine in the near future
