The Land husbandry, Water harvesting and Hillside irrigation (LWH) Project and Rural Sector Support Project (RSSP) has promised to support Nyamagabe District in sectors of Kibilizi, Kaduha, Mbazi, Kibumbwe and Tare to improve agricultural activities; Umuhinzi.com has learnt.
The LWH/RSSP will provide employment opportunities to more than 1000 Rwandans for a year
According to Jean Marie Rusilibana the coordinator of LWH/RSSP in Nyanza, Gisagara, Huye and Nyamagabe districts in the western Province of Rwanda, the project will also provide fertilizers.
The terraces will be made on land that is affected by soil erosion in the said sectors and local people will be taught how to make the terraces productive.
Apart from protecting the land from soil erosion and being more productive than before, LWH/RSSP will provide employment opportunities to many Rwandans. Each person working on the project will be paid Rwf2000 daily and it will be operate for a year.
The area where terraces will be made in the five sectors have been marked and inspected. Local people and local authorities are being sensitized to fully participate in the project.
The LWH/RSSP plans to make terraces and making the produce fertilizers on the area between 1,500 and 2,000 hectares in all five sectors.
