Farmers started preparing land for the 2014A farming season after the heavy September rains started falling in Kamonyi district.
This rain that started on the 31/08/2013 brought hope to farmers that this season will indeed start on time if it continues to rain.
“If it continues to rain like this and no natural calamities are encountered then farmers will be able to get better harvest”, said one Peruth Nyirasafari from Muganza cell.
Farmers who have not yet started preparing their land were therefore called upon by the district official in charge of agriculture Justin Mukiza to use this chance and prepare their land for the coming agricultural season.
About 100 farmers have so far been registered to get fertilizers as per the government programme of giving out fertilizers to farmers at a lower cost.
90percent of Kamonyi residents are farmers and therefore who spend most of their time during the dry season working on their harvest from season B of farming.
During this coming agricultural season 2014A farmers are planning on planting maize, beans, cassava, vegetables, pineapples, rice among other crops.
